  1. The Selfs 1965-1966 - wasn't the singer Chris Slatter rather than Slater?

    1. Around the web all the sources I've seen says "Slater", but I'm not sure, maybe you're right, who knows!

      Cheers,

    2. My father is Chris Slatter so I can vouch for the spelling

  2. I seem to remember that the original drummer of The Selfs was John Bowring, and the 1965 Graveyard Club at St Andrews Church Hall, Kingsbury, was a regular weekly fixture until a club-goer was sick on a gravestone.

    1. Actually John Bowring was only a sessionman who filling in for The Selfs' drummer Mick Richardson during one studio session when the band recorded an acetate of The Who's "I Can't Explain". I think the producer though that Mick Richardson was not too good as drummer so he was "replaced" by a pro musician like John Bowring, but just for that day and for that session. You know, it's like when sessionmen Andy White plays in "Love Me Do" instead of Ringo Starr because George Martin though that Ringo was not soo good back then.

About the Graveyard Club, I think you're right here, thanks!

      Cheers,
      Bruno

  3. I am John Bowring and I was the drummer for the Selfs for most of their existence. I was not a session drummer. I played regularly at the Graveyard club not Mick Richardson as shown and confirm that I was on the recording of Cant Explain. The singer was my best mate Chris Slatter not Slater. Glad to see the note from his daughter Jessica. I was in the church choir with him, Chris Squire and Andrew Jackman when we decided to create the band.
